    Greeting Newcomer!

Welcome to The Beyond, an RP forum themed on a cross of fantasy and science fiction, set in the future times. We are a friendly community welcoming all ages and level of writing abilities. If you enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, high tech stuff, competitive combat with a bit of story, then look no further as you have come to the right place!

Before you begin on your journey into The Beyond, I would recommend you introduce yourself in the introductory thread. While it isn’t compulsory for you to do so, it can be a good way to meet new friends who are willing to guide you along the way in getting used to this site. Be careful of lunatic users though.

When you are done, or if you decided to skip this for reasons including you are an old member here or the introduction is a huge waste of time, I would like to point you to our rules and guidelines thread. Very simple really, if you know how to behave. Here you will find chatbox rules, forum rules, guidelines on how we roleplay etc. Normally we don’t like dumping rules on newcomers right as they come onto our site but, standard regulations and all that to avoid complete utter chaos. If you are involved in an RP site before, then there is nothing really new or fancy, but just give it a skim through as we may have included or removed some rules you have never seen before.

We also have a bit of lore for our world of The Beyond as well. If you enjoy reading a bit about our history, how cities become cities or dominating forces, you can do so in the Lore and Hisory. It is still a work in progress and may be updated irregularly depending on events that unfold through events, site-wide plots or other lore roleplays. If you would like to participate, you will need to create a character and get it approved by the staff at least.

If you have any questions, you can either ask an available staff or veteran members in the chatbox, or post your question in the help thread. We are actively trying to develop and improve the site so all users can have a very fulfilling RP experience. If you would like to contribute and offer a suggestion, you can do so in the suggestions and ideas thread.

    What is Forum Roleplaying?

Pretty much roleplaying through the use of forum posts. Basically all you really have to do is roleplay as your character, post their thoughts, what they are feeling, sensing or saying and that’s it. Then you wait for another user to respond with their character and the process continues. In general, it’s like writing a story, cooperated with other members. Forum roleplaying is different from chatbox roleplays in terms of length and how descriptive they normally are. You also have all the time in the world (probably) to type up an ideal response, but some RPs may have day limits that users need to abide to or they are kicked from the RP.

    How do I get started?

First, create your character to roleplay as. When you are creating them, please abide to our character template and fill them out like you would for an application. Make sure to copy it from the box at the bottom of that page! I would also suggest you have a look at our as it can help you create an enjoyable character to RP with. Please note we have separate applications for character abilities, weapons/items, vehicles and other accessories, so it is very easy to get lost. For this reason, I would definitely recommend you follow the character creation guide. When you have created your character, submit your character application in the Character Creation thread by creating a new topic, giving it a title (preferably the name of your character) and copy-paste your application in the body.

I have submitted my character application. Now what?

Now you wait for one of the staff members to approve your character! Once they do so, they will give you an approval stamp and starting money of up to $10,000! The more detailed your app is, the more likely you will get this boosted advantage. While you wait, you may move on to the next creation thread, if you want to add abilities, strengths, weapons etc. for your character. Please note they have their own templates in their respective threads. Once you filled out those applications, make a new topic under the respective threads and do the same thing. For title, put in your character’s name and ‘abilities’ e.g. “Bob’s abilities”. They will need to await approval from the staff as well.

My character has been approved. Now what?

Now, you will find there are lots of things for you to do for your character. The following categories below will help provide you what we offer for all users, old and new.

    I. Items

    II. Guilds

    III. Roleplaying

    IV. Missions

    V. Bounty Hunting

    VI. Jobs

    VII. Arena

    I. Items

With every new approved character, you will get 1 free item of your creation! This can range from a weapon, to a combat pet or vehicle. Note, you will have to create this item yourself in the appropriate thread and this needs to be approved by staff. The creation threads are:

    Weapons, armour or other items
    Pets and Companions
    Vehicles

When the staff approves, they will do so, along with their chosen Price Tag for how much the item is worth. At this point, you will also earn $500 credit for simply creating an approved item! NOTE, you do NOT get this item immediately, hence the price tag. You will then to respond with how you want to proceed with this:

    Buy the item

You pay the given price tag and the item is officially yours. NOTE, you can haggle the approving staff and bargain with them to pay for a lower price than they give.

If this is going to be the free item for a new character, let the staff know and link them to your approved character.

    Sell the item

Reply to the staff that you want to sell the item to the marketplace. Note, you MUST receive staff approval to sell the item (as oppose to just approving the item's existence). Once you have our go-ahead, go to the Marketplace and create an app in the appropriate section for your item, following the buying/selling template. If another user manages to purchase the item, you will get $500 credit to your account. NOTE: You do NOT get any money from selling the item itself unless the item has been purchased upon creation.

    II. Guilds

The first thing I would recommend you to do is join an open guild in the guild thread. Guilds are a great way to find friends for your characters, as well as giving you access to certain perks these guilds may provide, missions unique to them, as well as protection from bounty hunters (if your character does have a bounty. More about bounty hunters below). Do note that guilds cannot just run without money and they may require members to pay their taxes depending on their rank and such. I would recommend finding a guild where they do not charge new members anything.

Do note that guilds have a limited number of space for new members as well. It is entirely dependent on how advanced the guild is and how it’s well managed by the leader. Once you join a guild, be sure to give their description and perks a quick read before moving on to the world of The Beyond.

    III. Roleplaying

Now that you have your character approved and ready, you can join any open roleplays we have or create one of your own! They are normally found in the threads for the respective regions of The Beyond and may have a tag like [OPEN] next to the title. Any RP topic without any tags is considered an invite RP. You may ask to join but it is considered rude if you do not get permission. Don't let that stop you if you are joining to collect a bounty or something though. They'll be upset with you anyways. To be clear you do not need permission to join this kind of topic. A list of tags is provided below.

[OPEN] – Open RP. This is one of the most common tags indicating that the topic is open to all RPers of all levels. No sign ups or permissions required. If you like to join an OPEN topic, just make a post of your character getting there and such.

[CLOSED]/[PRIVATE] – Closed/Private RP. These topics are reserved for selected members only, the names of them normally in the title as well. If you are interested in joining an RP with these tags on it, you will need to ask for permission from the maker of the topic, either through the chatbox if they are there, or sending them a PM. A list of the invited people should be kept in the first topic post. The actually rp itself has to take place in a privet location. Hiding in a building in the city with tons of security does not count as private. Hiding in a cave on a mountain counts as private.

[OOC] – Out of Character RP. Basically this RP topic will not be official for any characters and will not be part of The Beyond’s lore. Go crazy if you like and murder everything you see, but this is no exception to respecting other members’ characters.

[ADVANCED] – Advanced RP. I would not recommend members new to the RP setting to roleplay in these kind of topics. Advanced RPs mean they require exclusive attention to detail on what your characters are doing, and will have a minimum word count per post. Posts short of the word count are prohibited and may be reinforced by the staff or the original poster. The minimum word count is +150 words, but the original poster may change this to a higher number. They will have to include their minimum word count next to the tag.

[MATURE] – Mature RP. Although The Beyond is generally PG rated, we may allow certain mature elements into our site. All roleplays of such needs to have this tag next to them, as some content in this particular RP may be seen as very disturbing or uncomfortable for some members. View at your own risk. Some mature content includes, but not limited to: Gore, excessive blood, torture, excessive swearing, nudity, sexual references and other adult themes. However, anything adults only content is absolutely prohibited!

[DEATH] – Death-enabled RP. As the tag implies, in this topic, it is entirely possible your character may officially die here. Officially dead characters can not be revived and their apps will be moved to the graveyard by the staff. Because of this, I do not recommend new members to join this kind of topic unless they are more confident in their abilities to RP and are willing to sacrifice one of their characters.

[MISSION] – Mission RP. All such topics are closed/private. If you want to join a mission RP, you will need to sign up for the mission of the same name in the Missions thread.

[TRAINING] – Training RP. This is a training topic usually by characters wishing to upgrade their existing abilities or develop a new ability. Normally this is a solo topic, but you may request permission from the original poster if you want to train with them. Note, unless you have ability points to spend (see below) you will not gain anything from this.

[SITE PLOT]/[EVENT] – Site plot/Event RP. These kind of RP topics may have an impact on the lore of The Beyond or may be an annual RP with some unique rewards in the end. Please ask the staff about any upcoming events and where to sign up.

[HISTORY] - A history RP is a RP considered to have happened in the past. It is meant for character development. A history rp is considered to be a closed/private rp and an advance rp with a 300 word requirement. Unlike other closed and private rps this does not have to be rped in a private setting and death is never enabled. There are consequences for anyone found abusing this tag for normal rp.

    IV. Missions

Missions are a great way of earning money to buy ability points, weapon upgrades or other stuff. They are made in the Missions thread by the staff or by executives from any guild. They have varying difficulties and different rewards, so it is best to have a look at the missions description before posting your acceptance to take the available mission. Once the open mission has taken enough members, it will close and a topic with the [MISSION] tag will be made under the same title, where characters who signed up may undertake it. Please keep in mind that not all missions are available to all characters, and some of them may be exclusive to certain guilds. When the mission has been completed, please post the link to the completed mission to the Completed Missions thread for a mission mod to look over and review.

Characters can only participate in up to 2 missions at any one time.

Mission mods will not reward characters for mission RPs that are not satisfactory. This includes one character deciding to go lone wolf and absolutely destroy everything in one post, or one character doing next to nothing throughout the entire mission. All characters in a mission must contribute in order for all of them to get rewarded. It takes just one character’s non-satisfactory performance to bring the whole team down and void them of any reward. How mission mods judge the performance and quality of RPs depends on the difficulty of the mission. They will be at their softest in easy missions, but most strict in extreme missions.

When in a mission RP, please respect the posting order of members involved. For example, if 3 characters (A, B and C) are involved, A posts first, then B posts next, then C and the order repeats. If A posts right after B posts without waiting for C, then that is breaking the posting the order. If you catch a member skipping someone’s turn, please let a member of the staff know so they can notify the member in question. Members participating in a mission have at most 3 days to reply if it is their turn. A mission mod may remove that member from the mission if they failed to respond within that time frame.

Death may be enabled in some missions so take them at your own risk.

If you are new to RPing, I would suggest you start out with the easy missions and work your way up until you find your level. Avoid death-enabled missions as much as possible unless you are confident. Although it is good practise in going for the hardest missions, it may anger some other members who joined in the same mission as they may see you as a burden.

    V. Bounty Hunting

    Awaiting changes...

Another method of earning money is through bounty hunting. In The Beyond, bounty hunters are characters who openly challenges another bounty-holding character to a battle. This can occur in any RP topics, but the fight must be done on a separate topic with the tag [COMBAT]. Challenges must be made in-character, and will not count if it’s done in the chatbox or in a topic with an [OOC] tag. Once openly challenged, the character must accept the fight. There are exceptions to this rule, and they are as follows:

-The challenged is currently involved in another bounty combat.

-The challenged has just been released from prison, so they are in a 7day respite (unless they want to accept it anyways)

-The challenged has an equal or lower bounty than the challenging bounty hunter

-The challenged is in the same guild as the challenger

-The challenged is from another guild (approval from the guild leader is required)

Bounty Hunters can either be rogues themselves or a member of a guild. Stipulations may be added to their fights, including whether they choose their location, time of the fight or even if death is enabled or not.

If the bounty hunter wins, they will earn money equal to the current bounty of the one they defeated, and the loser will be sent to prison. How the prison works can be found . However, if the bounty hunter loses, they may be traded in to the authorities themselves for their bounty, or they may be killed if death is enabled.

This method of earning money is not recommended to those new to RP as combat is involved and monitored by a combat moderator. Starting off by fighting anyone with a higher bounty than you is also not a great start, as you will probably need all the friends you can get to survive out there in the Beyond.

    VI. Jobs

Another way to earn money. Compared to missions or bounty hunting, jobs provide a much more stable weekly income and can help pay off any weekly expenses or guild taxes you may have incurred. Even better, you don’t need to RP how your character works! All what the job moderators want is that the characters working must check-in to their work topic weekly so they can take their earnings. However no jobs will pay any higher than $1000/week, so unless you are very patient, it’s not recommended to rely solely on jobs to help you earn your way to much better weapon, upgrades or ability points.

All jobs are created by the job moderators and those are available will be listed in the . To accept a job, you will need to fill in the job application template and post it under the job topic you are willing to take. Do note that jobs can become competitive, depending on how many places are open, and some jobs will favour a certain character trait over another. For this reason, I would highly suggest you rethink about your character’s personality and skills/hobbies if you haven’t already if there is a certain job you want them to take. After closing applications for a job topic, the job moderator may choose the highest quality application and approve the job for the chosen character. If your character is chosen, congratulations! Just post in that same topic every week and watch that money flow slowly into your pocket.

Only one job per character is allowed. To resign from a job, just post your resignation on the job topic and let a job moderator know that you have resigned so they may remove it. Also note that if you missed a week without replying to the job topic, you will not get your earnings for that week and will have a warning from the job moderator. If your character has 2 consecutive warnings, they will be fired.

Remember, jobs can be competitive at times and all of them could be taken at an instant. If you are desperate for money, either come back to the jobs thread next time or choose another method of earning some.

    VII. Arena

Probably where you can get the highest amount of money in any one RP topic. The Arena is where gladiators come around and fight other members or nasty beasts for the entertainment of spectators. Please be aware that this is not a place to earn a steady income nor a place for anyone new to RP, as the Arena is heavily based on combat and death is usually enabled. However, if you are very confident in your abilities to take out any dangerous enemies, or you simply don’t care about safety and such, then you have come to the right place!

To look for any worthy opponents or beasts that may have an award attached to them, you can find them under the Challenges thread. A common place to look for monsters to fight with rewards attached to them is the Monsters Battle List.

Alternatively, if your character isn’t interested in fighting any of the listed monsters, you can also choose to place bets on which fighter you think will win, whether it be character vs character or character vs monster. Stakes and Pay-off are decided by the Arena moderators in the combat RP of the fight, and will be open until 24hrs after the challenger makes their first post.

I have earned some money! What do I do with it?

Same thing you do to real life money. You buy stuff like items, pets, vehicles or upgrades for your weapons with them in the Marketplace, or use them to pay off any debts you owe to the guild, or bail anyone out of jail. Simple.

I bought an item! What do I do now?

The marketplace mod would have approved your purchase and add the item into your topic for your character. Same goes for vehicles or weapons.

What about upgrading weapons, items or accessories?

These cost money only, but no training topic is required. Instead, you will need to pay for the parts required to upgrade your equipment yourself. The stronger the weapon, the more it will costs. To upgrade your weapon, fill in the for either the weapons, items or vehicles (whichever is appropriate) in their respective Creation threads and post it as a new topic for the staff to approve.

And that is pretty much all. By this point, hopefully you are now used to the RP site The Beyond and we hope you enjoy your time here! I know all of this seem a bit too much to absorb, and we don’t expect you to know everything by just reading the rules. A lot of it comes from experience. If you have any further questions, feel free to PM any of the staff, or simply post your question in the help thread. We know you will have a wonderful experience here!

    Good luck!

    Kind Regards,
    TB Staff
